Healthy Breakfasts to Enjoy at Your Kitchen Islands Bar

Many of us have written down “Eat healthier” or “Get in Shape” as one of New Year’s resolutions for several years. Why not make this year the year that you actually follow through on this resolution? Eating healthier does not only mean changing the type of food that you eat; it also might require you to change your eating schedule and your kitchen furniture habits. The most important meal of the day is breakfast and it is the one meal that is skipped the most often.

Breakfast is essential because it gives you the fuel your body and your mind need to get through until lunchtime. Most of us are incredibly rushed in the morning; we went to bed too late the night before, missed the alarm, and have no breakfast bars to grab on your way out the door. You need to change this habit! You will discover how much more energy you have and you will be much more prepared to face the challenges of the day if you just eat breakfast. Now that you have installed that kitchen islands bar in your kitchen, you should use it! Here are some nutritious break fast ideas that are easy, delicious, and fast!

1) Yogurt, granola, and fruit. Avoid sugary yogurts and granola; aim for the healthier versions. The fruit will sweeten this meal just perfectly and its sugar is actually something your body can use.

2) Oatmeal, blueberries, and nuts. Oatmeal is incredibly easy to make (steel-cut oatmeal is the best for you) and you can add flavor by adding fresh or dried fruits.  Walnuts and almonds are great additions. For even more nutritional content, try adding flaxseed or coconut oil. You never knew that oatmeal could be so healthy and so tasty!

3) Grapefruit with whole wheat toast. Grapefruit is a very tasty (though tart, add a little sugar or honey if you are so inclined) fruit and when paired with whole-wheat toast, is the perfect combination of fuel for a busy day at the office. Spread some almond butter on the toast for an extra boost.

4) Eggs with vegetables. Egg whites are healthier than the whole egg but whole eggs are healthier than a donut or a muffin so if you prefer the whole egg, then go for it. Scramble in a few chopped up bell pepper pieces, broccoli, onions, and season with a small amount of salt and black pepper.

These are just a few ideas for breakfast. Protein shakes also work well if you are really in a hurry. You will feel more energized and prepared for the day and your kitchen cart or island will be happy it is in use!
